South Houston High School Early College Annex

IBI Group led the architecture and interior design for South Houston High School’s new early college annex; a two-story, freestanding learning facility that was designed to house the District’s growing advanced studies program.

350 Students
2017 Completed

This learning facility, which provides space for approximately 350 high school students to earn early college credits, offers a seamless transition between PreK-12 and higher education, and aims to mimic college environments by featuring:

  • ten classrooms;
  • two science labs with prep areas;
  • large multi-purpose rooms;
  • collaborative spaces;
  • cafeteria/flex areas, including warming kitchens; and
  • a lobby, administrative offices and ancillary spaces.

Classrooms and learning areas include marker walls, tack walls, interactive short throw digital projectors, multiple display monitors and one-to-one technology supported by both hardwired and wireless network systems. Whereas interior areas include flex spaces to encourage independent and small group learning.

Branding and environmental graphics incorporate:

  • school colors and the campus mascot;
  • inspirational words of encouragement; and
  • future education and professional themes.

Site improvements made use of existing grounds, but also provided additional parking, service drives, landscaping with irrigation, athletic hills and sidewalks to connect to the existing campus.

A new generation of minds is reshaping the way we approach education at all levels of learning.
